What to expect at Nomad Chiropractic

  • Initial Consultation

    45mins

Your chiropractor will take the time to understand your full health picture—looking beyond just symptoms to explore your lifestyle, stress, work demands, movement patterns, and injury history.

A comprehensive assessment will follow, including orthopaedic, neurological, postural, and spinal evaluations to understand how your nervous system and body are functioning together.

  • Report of Findings

    30mins

At your second visit, we’ll walk you through what we’ve found in a clear, easy-to-understand way.

You’ll learn what’s contributing to your symptoms, how your body is compensating, and what your personalised care plan will look like—whether your goal is pain relief, improved movement, or long-term performance.

  • Regular Appointments

    15mins

Once your care is underway, each appointment builds on your progress. The focus is on reducing spinal tension and supporting better nervous system function so you can move and feel with greater ease.

Care is delivered in phases, with a re-assessment at the end of each plan. We review posture, mobility, muscle tone, joint function, nervous system responses, and symptoms to track progress and adjust your care as needed.

Why lower back pain keeps coming back

Lower back pain is rarely just a “muscle problem”.

It’s often a combination of:

🌸 Spinal joint restriction

🌸 Poor movement patterns

🌸 Nervous system overload (stress, fatigue)

🌸 Disc irritation or inflammation

🌸 Compensation from hips, pelvis, or posture

👉 Which is why quick fixes don’t last.

🌸 Learn More:

  • Back pain can be caused by something:

    • physical (like a fall, car accident, or even from being sedentary (not moving enough)

    • emotional (stress has a huge impact on the spine)

    • systemic or visceral; (organ referrals) or

    • chemical (eg poor diet, dehydration, prolonged pharmaceutical use, antibiotics etc)

    • Pregnancy associated back pain

Back pain can start for seemingly no reason at all...

    Examples of back problems include:

    • back or spine pain (such as lower back pain, and sciatica),

    • vertebrae and disc disorders (such as narrowing of the spinal canal, disc degeneration and disc bulge/herniation);

    • and deforming disorders (such as scoliosis).(5)

    • Non- specific low back pain: For about 8 in 10 Australians who suffer back pain, it’s not caused by any particular condition – this is called ‘chronic primary low back pain’ (also known as non-specific low back pain) which is most common in people aged 35 to 55 years, but it can affect people of all ages.(6)

    • Acute pain
Acute pain means the pain is short in duration (3-6mths). Acute pain also tends to be related to a soft-tissue injury or a temporary illness, so it typically subsides after the injury heals or the illness subsides. Acute pain from an injury may evolve into chronic pain if the injury doesn’t heal correctly or if the pain signals malfunction. Acute pain is less complicated and much easier to help resolve.

    • Chronic pain.
Duration: longer than 3 months. It can be constant or intermittent (comes and goes). Chronic pain occurs at the spinal cord level (ie it no longer needs a stimuli) so requires retraining of the brain to resolve it; and will require a longer term management plan.

    • Neuropathic pain.
Is often chronic; and is caused by damage to the nerves or nervous system. It is often described as shooting, stabbing, or burning pain. It can feel like pins and needles; or can have a sensory change to hot/cold etc.

    • Nociceptive pain
This type of pain is damage to body tissue - often experienced in the joints, muscles, skin, tendons, and bones. It can be both acute and chronic.

    • Radicular pain (eg sciatica)
This type of pain occurs when the spinal nerve(s) get compressed or inflamed.  You may experience tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness. The widest known example is sciatica - shooting pain down your leg.

Understanding Common Types of Low Back Pain

At Nomad Chiropractic, we frequently encounter three main types of low back pain: herniated or bulging discs, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, and facet joint dysfunction.

Herniated or bulging discs often cause pain that radiates from the lower back down into the buttocks, thighs, and calves, frequently accompanied by numbness or weakness in the legs.

Facet joint dysfunction generally causes more localised discomfort in the lower back, but can occasionally radiate to the buttocks, hips, or thighs.

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction typically results in a dull ache on one side of the lower back, which may spread to the hips, buttocks, and even the upper thighs.

At Nomad Chiropractic, our experienced chiropractors are here to guide you in understanding and managing these conditions. We’ll work with you to create a personalised care plan that addresses your unique needs and helps you get back to feeling your best.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help Low Back Pain

At Nomad Chiropractic in Mosman, we believe that the key to managing and overcoming low back pain is movement.

Our chiropractic care focuses on restoring proper motion to your spine and pelvis, which can make a big difference in reducing your symptoms and improving your overall function.

  • By addressing misalignments, or 'subluxations', we help enhance the communication between your brain and body. This improvement in nervous system function positively impacts many aspects of your lower back health, including pain, movement, balance, and posture.

FAQs – Lower Back Pain Chiropractor Mosman

  • Don’t put up with it! Do something about it today!

If your lower back pain has lasted more than a few days, keeps coming back, or is starting to affect how you sit, sleep, or move, it’s a good idea to get it checked. A lot of people wait until the pain is severe, but earlier assessment often means quicker recovery and less long-term compensation in the body. At Nomad Chiropractic, we focus on identifying the underlying cause, not just managing symptoms.

  • Chiropractic care can help both short-term relief and long-term improvement, depending on the cause of your pain. At Nomad Chiropractic, we assess your spine, nervous system, posture, and movement patterns to understand what’s driving your symptoms. The goal isn’t just to ease pain for a few days — it’s to help your body move and function better so the issue is less likely to keep coming back.

  • Recurring lower back pain is often linked to underlying issues like poor posture, spinal joint restriction, muscle imbalances, previous injuries, or ongoing stress on the nervous system. Many people treat each flare-up as a separate issue, but it’s usually the same root cause repeating. That’s why a proper assessment is key — so we can break the cycle rather than just chasing symptoms.
